5 Distinct Types of Aerobic Exercises

Today, Aerobics is one of the most favorable exercises in the market. The reason of this is probably due to the fact that there is always pop dance music played when one is doing the exercise. There are many benefits of aerobic exercises as we explained in my last post but one obvious advantage is it increases heart rate of the person who does the exercise and results in better blood circulation, more intake of oxygen to the body, weight loss and so on.

In fact many physical exercises that we do today such as swimming, jogging, running and walking are considered as aerobic workout as well. A typical workout routine will be:

      Warming up: 5 – 10 minutes
      The proper routine: 20 – 30 minutes
      Cooling down : 5 minutes

There are different types of aerobic exercises that are suitable for various level of individuals. However there are five common types, namely:

Low-impact aerobics

Low impact aerobics are suitable for elderly, pregnant women or persons that are overweight or obese. The reasons because there are no jumping or bouncing activities that may harm the joints or bones of an individual. The typical posture of the person who performs the low impact aerobics will be standing with both feet on the ground which reduces the risk of causing injuries.

High impact aerobics

As opposed to low impact exercise, high impact does the exactly opposite. It includes activities like jumping, turning, shuffling and doubling which designed to improve the toning of the abdominal area, calf, and also boost the cardiovascular system. If the person thinks they are already comfortable with the low impact workout, they may jump into this high impact aerobics themselves but bear in mind that they should always consult a medical doctor, physician or a trainer prior they make such a decision

Step Aerobics

Step aerobics use steps benches during the exercise routine. The routine basically helps individuals to develop their lower bodies. Also, studies found this type of workout routine is best for persons who wishes to lose weight or do not wish to getting involved in the high impact exercise.

Aerobic kickboxing

Aerobic kickboxing or sometimes known as cardio boxing. The calories burnt in such an activity is about 800 per hour and thus it is the most effective workout for people who want to lose weight or want to build more more energy and longer stamina.

Water aerobics

As the name implies water aerobics are performed in swimming pools and it was designed to reduce injuries on muscles or joint problems as opposed to their “land sibling”. According to some experts water aerobics although it is a low impact, it can burn calories even faster compared with the land exercises. It typically provides a good result for persons who want to lose weight.
